| The view from the chairs at the Colonial Beach Hotel was expansive. Sometimes out in the distance we would see big tanker ships or other boats going by. But, other than that, we saw nothing except ocean when we looked out. We knew that Madagascar was the next island we'd reach if were were to sail straight out from the beach and that was a kool thought. We really were far from home here in Mauritius!
The fact that we were far from home was very evident whenever we talked with someone about where we were from. Many people we talked were surprised that were were from America and some even said "oh, you're the first Americans I've met." That was really surprising! We were really far from home! |
