We were often the only ones out on the beach enjoying the sunsets and they were magnificent. The tide would go out just before sunset and all the rocks in the water would be exposed. One night, a group of Mauritians came by to collect the seaweed that was growing on the rocks. It was from one of these guys that we heard about the new Radisson hotel that had just been built one half mile down the coast.

We would also watch the dogs play on the beach as the sun set. There were about five dogs that "belonged" at the Colonial Beach. Whenever another dog would just be passing through, the five that "belonged" there would escort the other dog along the way, making sure they weren't planning to stay.
